Paintball: A Serious Sport

Paintball has increased in popularity, and is even used in military training and law enforcement, in addition to the everyday fun games such as “capture the flag”, “elimination”, Woodsball and Speedball. Paintball can be played in both indoor and outdoor arenas, and can last anywhere from a few seconds to several days, depending on what type of game is being played.

Paintball guns or “markers” are the primary tool used in the sport of paintball. Markers are “used to tag the opposing player with paintballs. The paintball marker must have a loader or “hopper” attached to keep the marker fed with paint, and will be either gravity-fed (where balls drop into the loading chamber), or electronically force-fed. Modern markers require a compressed air tank or Co2 tank.” Although the actual rules vary depending on the location of your game, pretty much everyone says you’ve been “marked” if you have a quarter-sized splat of paint on your body.

In order to find the best paintball gun, you have to know what types are out there. You also need to know exactly what you’ll be using your gun for, so that you can buy the best paintball gun for what you’ll be doing with it. Let’s check out which is the best paintball fun for you.

The handle is a nice comfortable rubber grip and the clip is a detachable tool holder for your “included” allen wrenches used to take apart and assemble the gun.”

Other reviewers say they’d purchase a longer barrel for this gun because it comes with an 11” barrel and they’d prefer to shoot at longer ranges. This gun is on the heavy side, but this doesn’t matter since you know you have paid for quality material in a gun rather than plastic. Most reviewers who mention the gun’s weight say that it’s not a big deal. “The rails on it provide a good use for a grip and a sight” and “none of the paintballs explode within the barrel”.

Kingman Training Eraser 11mm Marker

pistolThis pistol paintball marker, the Kingman Training Eraser 11mm, is nice because it’s small, portable and easy to use. The biggest pro to this gun is its consistency with its shots. One purchaser explains that he “fired two cylinders of C02 worth of paintballs through it, counting every shot, for the purpose of judging gas capacity. I got 79 shots from the first cylinder and 80 from the second. The last ball shot out with virtually the same speed as the first.”

Some of the features include:

  • All Aluminum Construction
  • Shots at 250 Feet per Second
  • Shoots up to 70 paintballs with 1 12gram CO2 Cartridge
  • Shoots .43 cal paintball

For playing scenario paintball, one reviewer said that “the smaller calibre balls keep the size down so it doesn’t feel like an oversized toy, and their need for less CO2 mean you spend more time shooting and less time futzing with 12 gram cartridges – two of which are included in the package.” This gun would be good to carry as your backup weapon and can be kept on your waist or in your pocket because of its size.

Consistently, buyers say this gun is accurate up to approximately 30 yards and is a great sidearm purchase for the cost. “It is well designed and well made and is pretty accurate for a pistol.”

I play woodsball several times a month and I must say if you have the money and are considering this like I was, do it you will be glad you did.”

Obviously, this isn’t a pistol, so you would need to prepare how exactly to transport this gear with you in the most efficient way possible.

The rifle includes features such as:

  • Tiberius Arms 8.1 pistol
  • First Strike equipped
  • Side dovetailed iron sights
  • Undermount tac rail

One reviewer stated that this gun is “reliable, comfortable, sturdy, simple, and attractive.”  Another reviewer stated that  this gun “looks cool feels great in hand my original marker made me combat ineffective this weapon fires every time all the time it is simple to use and is a sturdy platform for extras.” The mask can cause your face to be pretty sweaty, but is great protection from hits. The CO2, according to one reviewer, doesn’t come filled, so it is suggested that you purchase CO2 when you purchase this gun.

Tippmann 98 Custom Platinum Basic Series 3Skull Paintball Gun Marker MEGA Set

Tippmann KitThe Tippmann 98 Custom MEGA Set is a top-notch kit that comes with everything that you need, including:

  • Tippmann 98 Custom Marker
  • GXG XVSN Mask with Visor & Anti Fog Lens
  • 3Skull 200rd Black Hopper, 3Skull 20 oz CO2 Tank with pin valve
  • 3Skull 6+1 Deluxe Paintball Harness Black, 6 – 140 Round Heavy Duty Ultimate Paintball Clear Tubes
  • 1oz Gold Cup Oil, 3Skull 21″ Orange Jerk Squeegee

One reviewer had been out of the sport for a while and found that after purchasing this kit, that this gun is “one of the most reliable markers on the market. These things take water, dust, mud, paint, and abuse like it’s no big thing. When properly maintained they can last for a decade. They are easy to clean, lube, and upgrade.”

The mask included in the kit, according to one purchaser “is actually a JT mask and better than the one pictured. Comes with Anti-fog film on the inside lens” and the pod belt “holds 1 C02 or air tank and 6 140 paintball capacity tubes which are durable and easy to pop open.”

The waist pack is fairly well made. It holds 6 pods which,” in one reviewer’s opinion, “is too much for standard woodsball. Woodsball games are generally no marathon and so I prefer only to carry 2-4 pods at a time. The extra 2 pod pockets actually come in handy for storing gloves, neck guard, etc. when not playing. The cleaning hose (orange) included pulls through the barrel nicely to clean it…”

Because it comes as a kit, “the price is unbeatable; it would easily cost twice this much if items were bought in-store individually.” However, you should probably purchase some gloves, a neck guard and a beanie at the same time you purchase this kit, so that you will be fully protected when you play.
